Frequently Asked Questions

+ What are the system requirements?

CORE protects only computers running Windows 7, 8 or 10 and Macs with OSX 10.7 and above. POWER & ULTIMATE protect computers running Windows 7, 8 or 10 and Macs with OSX 10.7 and above, and servers running Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2011, or 2012. Image backup and bare metal restore require 64-bit hardware.

+ What is the difference between "Cloud Backup" and "Cloud + On-Site Backup"?

Cloud backup is the practice of making a secondary copy of a file or folder that you keep at a separate offsite storage location and access remotely when necessary. Cloud and on-site backup is having extra copies stored both locally and at a separate offsite location. This is also called “hybrid backup.” We recommend hybrid (cloud and on-site) backup because it gives you both, the speed of on-site recovery and the security of having an extra copy in the cloud should you lose access locally.

+ How does the E2's "protected footprint" pricing work?

With E2’s “protected footprint” pricing, you never have to worry about how much storage space you might need to protect your files and folders in the cloud. All of your backups are automatically backed up to the cloud, including full version history, in addition to the most recent copies that are stored on the E2 backup device on-site.

+ Are Carbonite plans HIPAA compliant?

Yes, all Carbonite for office plans support HIPAA compliance as well as FERPA and GLBA. If you're a healthcare organization and you need Carbonite to enter into a Business Associates Agreement (BAA) as required by HIPAA, one can be provided upon request.

+ Is Carbonite secure?

Carbonite uses advanced encryption at every stage while backing up. We use minimum 128-bit encryption, with an optional 256-bit private key for server backup, plus Transport Layer Security (TLS/SSL).

+ Can I add additional cloud storage to my plan?

Additional storage for the Cloud Backup plans (CORE / Power / Ultimate) can be purchased in 100 GB increments at any time.
